More than 50 taekwondo judges took part in a two-day training course in Rio de Janeiro.

The event, organised by the Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) and the Brazilian Taekwondo Confederation, took place at the JW Marriott Hotel.

Mexico's Araceli Ornelas gave the first lecture which focused on kyorugi rules.

"For us as a working team of the Pan American Taekwondo Union, and on behalf of our President,  Juan Manuel Lopez Delgado, it is a real privilege to be able to deepen the knowledge and training of you, the new generation of referees of the continent," said Dennis Berdugo, the director of the Sports Commission of PATU.

Axel Sanchez, PATU's referee chairman, also spoke and was an Olympic judge at Tokyo 2020.

"We are here to provide you with the greatest amount of knowledge during these two days of the seminar and you have the experience of Olympic referees and with multiple participations in events of the World Taekwondo world circuit," the Mexican said.

"The idea is to clarify as many doubts as possible and permanently contribute to your academic and professional improvement."

Rio de Janeiro is now hosting the President's Cup Pan America competition until Sunday (September 24).
