Six swimmers won multiple titles at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships, held in Netanya in Israel.

Maximus Williamson of the United States became the first swimmer at either a senior or junior World Aquatics Championships to medal in both the men’s 100 metres freestyle and 200m individual medley.

In the men’s 100 metres freestyle Williamson took victory in 48.45 seconds.

Silver went to Lorenzo Ballarati of Italy in 49.05, with the podium completed by Australia’s Edward Sommerville in 49.53.

In the men’s 200m individual medley Williamson was victorious in a championship record time of 1min 57.29sec.

Compatriot Daniel Diehl claimed silver in 1:58.62, with Canadian Lorne Wigginton winning the bronze in 1:59.44.

There was also double breaststroke success for Canadian Alexanne Lepage, who produced a strong finish in the final fifty metres to win the women’s 200m in 2:24.70.

Silver went to Mina Nakazawa of Japan in 2:25.57, while the bronze medal was won by Estonia’s Eneli Jefimova in 2:26.29.

Lepage also won the women’s 100m breaststroke in 1:06.58, with Jefimova taking the silver on this occasion in 1:06.84, and bronze going to Spain’s Jimena Ruiz in 1:07.25.

There was an inspirational double gold during the Championships for Ukrainian Oleksandr Zheltiakov, who produced a sub-30 second final lap to win the men’s 200m backstroke in 1:56.13.

The silver medal was won by Diehl in 1:58.93, with bronze going to Christian Bacico of Italy in 1:59.33.

Zheltiakov also triumphed in the 100m backstroke in 53.73, with silver on this occasion going to Miroslav Knedla of the Czech Republic in 54.01, and the bronze won by Bacico in 54.08.

Lana Pudar of Bosnia and Herzegovina also became a double junior world champion, with her second victory coming in dramatic style as she claimed the women’s 100m butterfly with a gritty final lap to triumph in 57.77.

Silver went to Leah Shackley of the US in 58.29, with defending champion Mizuki Hirai of Japan taking bronze in 58.35.

Seventeen-year-old Pudar’s second gold came in the women’s 200m butterfly, in a championship record of 2:07.20.

Silver went to Australia’s Bella Grant in 2:08.97, with bronze going the way of Italy’s Paola Borrelli in 2:10.89.

Pudar also earned a silver in the 50m butterfly in 26.26, with Shackley triumphing in 26.20.

Double junior World Championship gold also went to Turkey’s Kuzey Tuncelli, with the first success in the week of his 16th birthday coming in the men’s 800m freestyle.

Tuncelli took victory in 7:48.75, with silver going to Petar Petrov Mitsin of Bulgaria in 7:49.36, and bronze won by Zhanshuo Zhang of China in 7:50.03.

Racing over his preferred distance of 1500 metres Tuncelli won a second gold, claiming a twelve-second victory over the field as he triumphed in 14:59.80.

Silver went to South Korean Junwoo Kim in 15:01.94, with the podium completed by Zhang in 15:11.94.

The final swimmer to win double gold was Australia’s Olivia Wunsch, with her second gold in the women’s 50m freestyle coming in a championship record-equalling time of 24.59.

Silver went to Annam Olasewere of the US in 24.95, with the podium completed by Hannah Casey of Australia in 25.07.

Seventeen-year-old Wunsch also led home an Australian one-two in the 100m freestyle, taking gold in 53.71.

Silver went to compatriot Milla Jansen in 54.08, with Anna Moesch of the United States taking bronze in 54.69.    

The US finished top of the overall medals table with 15 golds, 11 silvers and seven bronzes in a total of 33.

Australia finished second with 24 medals in total, with Canada in third place with a tally of 13.
