Two Olympic Champions from London 2012 lead the way after the first day of trap competition at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships here.

In the men's trap, Giovanni Cernogoraz of Croatia is tied with 2022 world champion Derrick Mein of the United States, Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Jiri Liptak of the Czech Republic, Khaled Almudhaf of Kuwait, Andres Garcia of Spain and Mitchell Iles of Australia.

All shot 75 and lead the way in a men’s field of 136 starters.

Cernogoraz was an Olympic gold medallist in London but has never won a World Championships title.

London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Jessica Rossi of Italy leads the women's trap field of 75.

Rossi shot 75 in her first three rounds to top the standings.

Five-time Asian champion Sarah Alhawal of Kuwait recorded 73 hits. 

Kathrin Murch of Germany in third place is one of three others who also shot 73.

Tokyo Olympic Champion Zuzana Rehák-Štefečeková of Slovakia stands only 28th after shooting a 68 and 2022 world champion Carole Cormenier of France lies in 37th place and is one of nine shooters who recorded 67.

Shooters had to contend with temperatures which reached 37 degrees at one stage today.

They will shoot a further two rounds beginning at 8.00am tomorrow.

The top six men and top six women will advance to the finals in the early evening.

This is the final event of these championships offering Olympic quota places.
