A narrow victory in the women’s 3 metre springboard event by Chen Yiwen and Yang Hao’s men’s platform win on the concluding day at the SSE Swimming & Diving Hall completed their clean sweep.

Canada finished ahead of Australia to win the concluding mixed team event - from which China opted out.

Japan’s Sayaka Mikama, 22, presented a serious late challenge to Chen as she brought off the most difficult dive of the competition in the last round,  but the double world champion responded to finish 1.55 points ahead.

China’s world silver medallist Chang Yani, 21, was a distant third, 25.65 points behind her compatriot.

Going into the final round Chen knew that Mikami was less than 10 points behind her.

“I thought 10 points was not that close,” Chen said.

The 24-year-old admitted that her own dives could have been cleaner.

"I missed a lot of details of my dives," she said.

"It’s not supposed to be like this.

"I’m happy with the result, but…maybe I should do better."

Mikami commented: "I was trying to really just focus on my dive."

Canada’s World Championship bronze medallist Pamela Ware finished fourth, 7.45 points off the podium.

Yang Hao’s margin of victory was far more comfortable as he finished 56.80 points ahead of Ukraine’s 17-year-old rising - and falling - talent, Oleksii Sereda.

Britain’s Noah Williams earned bronze as he moved ahead of Canada’s 20-year-old Nathan Zsombor-Murray in the final round.

It was an inauspicious day for Australia’s 22-year-old world champion Cassiel Rousseau, who finished sixth.

Yang was asked if reclaiming the men’s 10m gold for China offered any redemption for his country’s rare loss at the World Championships in Fukuoka.

"I don’t understand too much about revenge," he said.

"In diving, the only opponent is ourselves. 

"We hope that all of us will dive the best of ourselves."

Australia led the mixed team event after the penultimate round, thanks largely to giant dives by Li Shixin on the 3m springboard and Rousseau on the 10m platform.

But a misfiring synchronised dive by Rousseau and Nikita Hains on the platform left room for Canada’s Caeli McKay and Zsombor-Murray to better the Aussies’ score by 4.8 points on their last dive for the win, with Great Britain finishing third.
