Shabi triumphed in the men's 73 kilograms snatch and clean and jerk competitions at the Bordj Al Kifan Multi-Sports Hall in Algiers.

He lifted 139kg in the snatch, exceeding Saudi Arabian pair Mahmoud Mohammed Al Humayd by four kilograms and Abdulrahman Saleh T Albeladi by 8kg.

Shabi and Al Humayd also occupied the top two positions in the clean and jerk, the Libyan athlete completing a 174kg lift and his closest challenger 173kg.

Samir Fardjallah of Algeria completed the podium with 172kg.

Shabi also won the overall competition with a total of 313kg.

In the day's other weightlifting category, the women's 59kg, the two golds were shared between Morocco's Ech-Chaibia Ech-Chachouiy and Algeria's Fatima Zohra Laghouati.

Ech-Chachouiy achieved 78kg in the snatch, while Laghouati triumphed with 98kg in the clean and jerk as the Moroccan athlete failed in her three attempts at 94kg and 95kg.

Laghouati triumphed overall with 175kg.

There was success for Kuwait on the final day of fencing at the Women's Centre Hall in Algiers.

They beat Jordan 45-34 in the final of the men's team épée and Tunisia 45-40 in the men's team sabre match for gold.

Algeria won the last gold medal 45-41 against Tunisia in the women's team foil final.

The hosts also triumphed in the men's team table tennis final at the Multi-Sports Hall in Tipaza, beating Saudi Arabia 3-1.

However, Saudi Arabia denied Algeria a place in the men's handball final at the Miloud Hadefi Complex Omnisport Arena in Oran, edging the second semi-final 20-19.

Qatar had earlier beaten Iraq by a single point 24-23.

Boxing concluded today with the men's finals at the Ben Aknoun Military Centre Hall in Algiers, and the host nation won four gold medals to add to the five in yesterday's women's gold medal matches.

Kamel Khennoussi unanimously won the under-48kg decider 5-0 against Tunisia's Hamza Essaadi, as did Jugurtha Ait-Bekka against Morocco's Abdelhaq Nadir in the under-63.5kg final, Chemseddine Kramou edged the under-67kg final 3-2 against Iraq's Karrar Kadhim Sahm Alezairej, and Mourad Kadi was the other Algerian winner 3-2 against Mohamad Mlaiyes of Syria.

Jordan enjoyed men's boxing success through Mohammad Abu Jajeh, who triumphed unanimously at under-60kg against Tunisia's Saiefeddine Ayari, and Hussein Ishaish who did likewise against Libya's Mohammed Ifraydhah at under-80kg.

Further golds for Jordan were provided by 4-1 victories for Odai Al-Hindawi against Iraq's Amer Kadhum Ghaneem Ghaneem in the under-86kg and Zeyad Ishaish against Morocco's Zine El Abidine Amroug in the under-71kg.

Morocco won two men's boxing golds through a unanimous victory for Imad Azoui against home favourite Mohamed Flissi at under-54kg and Soulaimane Samghouli 3-2 on a split decision against Jordan's Yousef Iashash.

Syria collected two golds through Alaa Eldin Ghossoun after the referee stopped his under-92kg final against Tunisia's Ghaoth Houimli and Ahmad Ghousoon who beat Algeria's Ahmed Abderraouf Ghazli 4-1 at under-75kg, and Tunisia's Alaeddine Zidi was the other gold medallist in the under-51kg category with a unanimous win against Syria's Hussein al-Masri.

Algeria continue to lead the medals table with a huge 87 gold medals, with Morocco climbing into second on 19 and Tunisia third on 18.

The Pan Arab Games has returned after a 12-year absence, and is due to run until Saturday (July 15).
