Sri Lanka had posted 233 at the Harare Sports Club thanks to 57 from Sahan Arachchige and 43 from Kusal Mendis.

The Dutch crumbled to 49 for 6 and were eventually all out for 105 in only 23.3 overs after Maheesh Theekshana returned figures of 4 for 31 and Dilshan Madushanka took 3 for 18.

"I want to take this momentum into the World Cup in India," Wanindu Hasaranga, who took 22 wickets in the tournament, said.

"Our bowlers have played a lot of games in India in the last two years, and we know how the wickets behave, this qualifier tournament has helped us a lot."

It was the second time that Sri Lanka had won a World Cup qualification tournament.

In 1979, they lifted the ICC Trophy, when they were still an ICC Associate Member, to qualify for the Prudential Cup.

In 2023, Sri Lanka went unbeaten through nine matches in the pool stage and Super Six.

Opener Pathum Nissanka was Sri Lanka's top runs scorer with 417, including an unbeaten 101 in only 102 balls to set up a nine wicket victory over host nation Zimbabwe.

Nissanka also scored 104 in an eight wicket win over the West Indies in Sri Lanka's final Super Six match.

In a tournament of high scores, perhaps the most astonishing match came earlier in the group stages.

West Indies reached a towering 374 for 6 against The Netherlands.

A century from Teja Nidamanuru helped the Dutch also total 374 to tie the match.

Logan Van Beek then struck a record 30 runs from the "Super Over" to make sure of victory for The Netherlands.

"That was a little bit of a turning point for us in the tournament and we kept the ball rolling from there," Netherlands captain Scott Edwards admitted.

In the Super Six phase of the competition, the Dutch lost to Zimbabwe but beat Oman to set up a decider against Scotland for a place at the World Cup.

Scotland totalled 277 for 9 thanks to a century from Brandon McMullen as Bas De Leede took  5 for 52.

De Leede then stepped up with the bat striking 128 in 92 balls.

It guided the Netherlands towards a four wicket victory and a place in the finals.

West Indies’ only Super Six victory came against Oman and defeats at the hands of Scotland and Sri Lanka confirmed their elimination.

When the men's World Cup was established in 1975, West Indies won the the tournament and repeated their success in 1979.

The 2023 ICC World Cup will be the first without them.

The Netherlands have played in four World Cup tournaments before, the last time was when it was last held on the sub-continent in 2011.

This October, the Dutch are scheduled to meet Pakistan in their opening encounter on October 6 in Hyderabad.

Sri Lanka, World Cup winners in 1996, are set to open their campaign against South Africa in New Delhi the following day.
