Brazil prevented the United States from winning a third consecutive International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women's AmeriCup while clinching a record-extending sixth title.

The Brazilians produced a sensational third-quarter performance which pushed them to the 69-58 victory at the Domo de la Feria in the Mexican city of León.

A promising start from José Neto's side put them into an 8-4 lead in the first period.

But Rickea Jackson, who ended with a game-high 22 points, showcased her attacking prowess to help the US, the reigning Olympic and World Cup champions, head into the first break up 16-14.

An end-to-end second quarter finished 21-21 before the Brazilians came out firing in the third winning it 25-10.

A two-point deficit in the final quarter, which went to the US 11-9, did not matter as Brazil had developed an insurmountable lead.

Kamilla Soares was brilliant for Brazil in her pursuit of a stunning 20-point, 11-rebound double-double.

After the deciding match, she was named as Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Soares was joined on the All-Star Five by team-mate Damiris Dantas, America's Jackson, Canada's Kayla Alexander, and Puerto Rico's Arella Guirantes.

The win automatically earns Brazil a place in the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament where they will have the chance to seal a spot at Paris 2024.

The US have already qualified for the Games after winning the World Cup in Sydney last October.

Earlier in the day, Canada beat Puerto Rico 80-73 to claim the bronze medal.

It was a rematch of the 2021 semi-final which resulted in the Puerto Ricans advancing.

The teams went into the half-time break with just one point separating them, in Canada's favour.

The Canadians then extended their lead in the second half courtesy of 19 points from Nirra Fields and a dominant display from Alexander who grabbed 19 rebounds.
