Co-hosts Canada and the United States are set meet in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Gold Cup after the conclusion of group matches today.

Canada won their last Group C match 4-2 against Cuba at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, but their failure to win their first two matches meant that Guatemala, who earned their second victory with a 3-2 scoreline against Guadeloupe, topped the table.

Junior Hoilett and Jonathan Osorio with goals in the 21st and 27th minutes, the first a penalty, put Canada two-nil up before Luis Paradela converted another penalty deep into first-half injury time for Cuba.

Jayden Nelson scored a third for Canada two minutes after the interval and Liam Millar hit a fourth in the 62nd minute to give a comfortable cushion, leaving Maikel Reyes' 89th minute goal as a consolation for Cuba.

The Canadians, who, with Qatar, were beaten semi-finalists in the last edition of this competition in 2021, will thus face the US, the defending champions and winners of the CONCACAF Gold Cup seven times since the first edition in 1991.

Guatemala, meanwhile, go forward to meet Jamaica, who finished second in Group A, on Sunday (July 9) at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati which will then stage the meeting of co-hosts.

Guatemala came from behind twice at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison to beat Guadeloupe, who scored first through Andreaw Gravillon in the 27th minute.

Rubio Rubin drew Guatemala level in the 39th minute, only for them to fall behind again in the 63rd minute when former French youth international Ange-Freddy Plumain scored a penalty.

Rubin equalised again in the 70th minute before, six minutes later, Carlos Mejía hit what proved to be the winner.

In Group C Panama were held to a 2-2 draw by the team that finished bottom, El Salvador, but their two earlier victories meant they topped the group and are due to meet Qatar at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Saturday (July 8).

The match, which proceeded the Canada game at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, saw Brayan Gil put El Salvador ahead after only four minutes.

Fidel Escobar, in the 26th minute, and Ismael Díaz, in the 71st, put Panama ahead and they seemed set for victory until Gil's brother Mayer hit an equaliser in a minute into injury time.

Panama's quarter-final is set to be be followed by the meeting of eight-times winners Mexico, beaten in the 2021 final, and Costa Rica, who finished off the group stages with a remarkable 6-4 win over Martinique in Harrison.

The score was only 2-1 at half-time with Kendall Waston putting Costa Rica ahead in the 10th minute before Patrick Burner equalised eight minutes later.

Francisco Calvo restored Costa Rica's lead four-minutes before half-time.

Juan Pablo Vargas, Joel Campbell with a penalty, Anthony Contreras then put Costa Rica 5-1 up before Brighton Labeau and Burner, with a second, scored for Martinique.

Any hopes of pulling off a remarkable comeback were ended when Diego Campos became the sixth different goalscorer for Costa Rica.

Martinique, however, continued to fighting until the end and added a fourth through Jonathan Mexique just before the final whistle.
