Thousands of trains are set to be refurbished as part of plans to expand the Paris metro in time for next year’s Olympics.

KFS Mobility, a global manufacturer of rail seats, has secured a contract with French railway authority SNCF to renew train seats for two lines of the Paris metro.

The company in Andrézieux-Bouthéon upholster and assemble seats for high-speed trains, regional trains, trams and metros.

It is set to work on the extension of the line 14 which will link Orly Airport to Saint-Denis Pleyel.

There are also plans for KFS Mobility to provide train seats for line 11 which is due to expand with six stations from Mairie des Lilas to Rosny-Bois-Perrier by 2024.

According to mesinfos, KFS Mobility’s 10-year contract is worth €15 million (£12.9 million/$16.4 million) and will see them equip 28 trains which equates to around 20,000 seats.

More than 10 million visitors are expected in Paris next year for the Games which are due begin on July 26.

As a result, attempts are being made to expand the travel options in the city, with 37 new metro trains ordered at a cost of €1 billion (£860 million/$1 billion), which will double the number in circulation.

RATP has also launched a recruitment plan for the Games as it aims to hire more than 6,600 new employees with 4,900 of those on permanent contracts.
