Poland's Central Sports Centre's (COS) Olympic Preparation Centres are planning activity zones aimed at engaging the public during the Kraków-Małopolska 2023 European Games here, including in host city Zakopane.

Renowned winter resort Zakopane is due to host summer ski jumping's debut at the Games from June 27 to July 1 on the Jumping Hills, and an activity zone is due to launch in the town's Independence Square on Monday (June 26).

This is set to showcase ski jumping and cross-country skiing, with the COS Olympic Preparation Centre for both sports being based in Zakopane.

Polish star Dawid Kubacki, a two-time Olympic medallist, is among the leading athletes due to compete in summer ski jumping.

"For me, this event is new, because I haven’t taken part in it before as an athlete or as a fan," he admitted.

"It will be an interesting experience for me, as the competition takes place at an unusual time for us.

"I’m sure the crowds of fans will support us, as it will be the holiday season."

Activities are also planned in other cities where the COS' Olympic Preparation Centres are based.

Cetniewo's zone is set to centre on boxing, with biathlon taking centre stage in Duszniki-Zdroj and 3x3 basketball in Gizycko.

Athletics in Spaly, Alpine skiing in Szczyrk and rowing and kayaking in Walcz are the other activity zones due to be provided by the COS during the European Games.

Biathlon, Alpine skiing and rowing are not featuring at Kraków-Małopolska 2023.

Gadgets and souvenirs are set to be on offer for participants, with high-profile Polish athletes expected to feature at some of the activities.

The European Games is due to begin tomorrow and run until July 2, with a total of 29 sports on the programme.
