Mexico and the United States are set to compete at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Americas Continental Flag Football Championship following the confirmation of entrants and are frontrunners to take podium places.

Mexico's women and the US' men won gold at the Birmingham 2022 World Games flag football competitions and will look to add to their trophy cabinets at the event scheduled for July 5 to 7.

Also taking part at the United States Performance Center in Charlotte are teams from Brazil, Canada, Chile, and Argentina, while Panama is planning to attend but has not confirmed as of yet.

"With just under a month to go the 2023 IFAF Americas Flag Football Championship is shaping up to be an incredible showcase featuring some of the world's best teams and the most exciting talent from across the two continents," said IFAF President Pierre Trochet.

"As one of the pinnacle events in our expanded international calendar, the event will highlight the growing competitiveness of flag football around the world, building on flag football’s ever-expanding popularity and propelling the game to even greater heights."

The Americas Championship is the first of three continental events taking place this year as IFAF prepares for its biggest-ever cycle of global flag football competition in the run up to next year's World Championships in Finland.

The continental events will serve as a qualifying pathway to the World Championships for the first time.

The Americas tournament will feature some of the sport's most recognisable athletes, including Mexican quarterback Diana Flores, who is an IFAF National Football League (NFL) Global Flag Football Ambassador and starred in the NFL's 'Run With It' Super Bowl commercial earlier this year.
