The format and riders have been confirmed for the cycling competition which will be part of the inaugural Olympic Esports Series in Singapore.

Four teams of four cyclists will compete in the event at the Suntec Centre between June 22 and 25, with two men and two women on each.

They will take part in a series of six races which are aimed at testing their "cycling and esports skills".

The competition will be organised by the International Cycling Union (UCI) and online cycling platform Zwift.

Riders will tackle the "eliminator" which will see the last place cyclist eliminated every time the race passes through an arch.

Sprinting and climbing events will also be held.

Teams taking part will include Team Fuego, featuring Lou Bates from Britain, Marlene Bjärehed from Sweden, James Barnes from South Africa and Martin Maertens from Germany.

Team Titans will feature Vicki Whitelaw from Australia, Linda Klein from The Netherlands, Zack Nehr from the United States and Kjell Power from Belgium, and Team Lava will consist of Alice Lethbridge from Britain, Teppo Laurio from Finland, Lionel Vujasin from Belgium and a fourth rider to be confirmed.

Completing the line-up will be Team Epic, featuring Jacquie Godbe from the US, Charlotte Colclough from Britain, Ben Hill from Australia and a rider to be announced. 

Zwift has previously hosted cycling esports competitions including the 2020 Virtual Tour de France and three editions of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships.

Archery, baseball, chess, dance sport, motorsport, sailing, shooting, taekwondo and tennis are also on the Olympic Esports Series programme.
