The Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV) held its General Assembly in Caracas with 41 national sporting federations taking part.

María Soto, the COV President, presented the activity report for 2022 which highlighted the Morochito Rodriguez grant programme, which helped support 183 sporting projects.

It is named after Rodriguez who won an Olympic gold medal in boxing at the Mexico City 1968 Games.

The Assembly also approved the COV's 2022 management report and the draft budget for 2023.

Soto, a former softball player, was elected as the COV's first female President at the General Assembly last year.

It followed the International Olympic Committee warning that "free and fair" elections were required to avoid the COV being hit with a suspension.

Eduardo Álvarez had been seeking to be re-elected to a position he held since 2006, but some questioned his Presidential nomination and took issue with the election process.

Álvarez was not present at the General Assembly and Soto was elected.

Venezuela won a gold and three silver medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, held in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
