Pakistan will soon have a taekwondo centre of excellence to help further develop the sport in the country.

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan, Gyeonggido Taekwondo Association (GTA) had sent a three-member delegation to Islamabad this week to finalise plans for establishing the taekwondo centre of excellence.

GTA president Kim Kyuengduk, executive director Kim Pyeong and director Mun He Sung made the trip to Pakistan after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) earlier.

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari, acting director general of Pakistan Sports Board Muhammad Ibrar, PTF President Col. (Retd.) Waseem Janjua and poomsae head coach Choi Seong were among the officials present to welcome the delegation.

"We are very much happy to be again in Pakistan to find out some more options to establish a centre of excellence for taekwondo and martial arts games," said GTA President Kim.

"I am very happy to receive a warm welcome from Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari.

"He had promised me that if I visit Pakistan he will come to receive at the airport."

Kim also commended the efforts taken by PTF to develop taekwondo in the last few years.

Pakistan is an emerging taekwondo nation and athletes from the country have not qualified for the Olympic Games so far.
