Marty Toomey has has been chosen to continue as New Zealand's Chef de Mission for the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

Toomey led the team at Beijing 2022, where New Zealand won their first Winter Olympic gold medals.

"Milano Cortina is fast approaching and I’m really pleased to have another opportunity to contribute to New Zealand’s success through the role of Chef de Mission," Toomey said.

"I'm looking forward to helping the team to build on the success of Beijing 2022 as the Winter Olympic Games head back to Europe."

Toomey was in charge of a team of nine at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott won gold in women's slopestyle to become New Zealand's first winter champion and later took silver in big air.

Nic Porteous later won gold in the men's half pipe.

New Zealand Olympic Committee chief executive Nicki Nicol paid tribute to Toomey’s "impressive leadership qualities" which have also seen him named to lead New Zealand's team at the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in South Korea.
