Grandmasters Lu Shanglei, Xu Xiangyu, Bai Jinshi and Li Di helped China defeat Uzbekistan in the World Team Chess Championship final.

The two deciding matches saw China post scores of 2.5-1.5 in Jerusalem.

Spain claimed the bronze medal, defeating India 3-1 in a playoff after the two teams tied 2-2.

In round one, Jinshi defeated Shamsiddin Vokhidov of Uzbekistan while games on boards one, two and four were drawn.

Uzbeks started the second round strongly with Nordirbek Yakubboev troubling Shanglei before eventually going down.

Ortik Nigmatov also lost to Li Di while the two other games were drawn to help the Chinese to victory.

China defeated Spain 3-1 in the semi-finals while the Uzbeks triumphed against India by the same scoreline.

The bronze medal match saw Jaime Santos Latasa and David Anton Guijarro winning on boards one and two.

This was their first-ever medal in a team event.

In the quarterfinals, China beat Poland 3-1 before Spain got the better of Azerbaijan 3-1.

Uzbekistan registered a 4-0 win over Ukraine in their quarter-final while India beat France 4-2.
