Eve_MuirheadDecember 9 - Scotland's women curlers face Russia tonight in the play-off stage of the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships in Champery, Switzerland.

They made it through after Eve Muirhead (pictured) qualified in first place from the round-robin with two six-ends wins yesterday.

In the morning session the Scots beat Russia's Liudmila Privivkova 9-1 before going on to beat the Netherlands 8-3.

The Scots now play Russia in the Page 1v2 play-off after the Russians came back yesterday evening to beat Norway's Linn Githmark 7-5.

At the same time, thanks to a score of three in the tenth end, Switzerland's Mirjam Ott beat Sweden's Stina Viktorsson 8-6 to complete her round-robin programme with the same won-seven, lost-two record as the Russians.

However, Russia earlier beat Switzerland in their head-to-head match so Switzerland will now play against Sweden again in the Page 3v4 play-off.

Denmark's Lene Nielsen followed up a morning 8-5 win over the Netherlands with a 4-3 victory over Latvia's Evita Regza to share a won five, lost four record with Norway, while defending champion Andreas Schöpp from Germany beat Finland 8-7 in her evening game, after a 7-5 win over Latvia in the morning, to finish seventh overall, on four wins.

Eighth-placed Latvia, on three wins, will now be challenged by whoever emerges as the women's B Group winners for a place in this season's Capital One World Women's Championship in Denmark.

Ninth-placed Finland join tenth-placed Netherlands in relegation to next year's B Group.

In the women's B Group competition the Czech Republic meets Hungary in the 1v2 play-off and Austria plays Italy in the 3v4 game scheduled for tonight.
