Oksana Kozyna became Ukraine's first ever badminton world gold medallist as she produced a comeback victory in the women's singles standing lower SL3 category at the Para Badminton World Championships in Tokyo.

Kozyna rallied from a game down to beat Turkey's Halime Yildiz 20-22, 21-18, 21-14 and deliver a historic moment for her country.

"I have written history for Ukraine badminton," said Kozyna.

"No one has ever been first at the badminton World Championships.

"Oksana Kozyna is the first to get a gold medal for Ukraine badminton.

"This is like wow.

"I'm so thankful for everyone who has supported me this week and from back home."

Kozyna and her Ukrainian team-mates have found refuge in Lille since fleeing their war-torn homeland with the help of the French Para badminton team.

"I do want to go back to Ukraine, but it depends on the situation there," Kozyna said.

"[But all I know] is I'm here because this is what I’m meant to do - play badminton.

"Even though there is a war on in Ukraine, I have God with me."

Tokyo 2020 gold medallists Sarina Satomi and Daiki Kajiwara of Japan, Frenchman Lucas Mazur and Malaysia's Cheah Liek Hou all triumphed in their finals.

Kajiwara cruised past South Korean Kim Jung-jun 21-12, 21-11 in 39 minutes in the men's WH2 singles gold medal match while his compatriot Satomi also took a straight sets victory.

She beat Cynthia Mathez 21-9, 21-10 in just 26 minutes in the women's WH1.

Another one-sided affair was in store in the men's SL4 decider as Mazur dispatched Indonesian Fredy Setiawan 21-12, 21-17.

Hou then downed Setiawan's countryman Dheva Anrimusthi 21-14, 21-12 in the men's SU5 gold medal match in 33 minutes.
