Ukrainian high jumpers Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Andriy Protsenko have been jointly put forward to win World Athletics' International Fair Play Committee (CIFP) Fair Play Award 2022.

Both athletes have made the final three after displaying "incredible strength and resilience" to win at the Oregon 2022 World Championships, despite the ongoing war in their home country.

Mahuchikh achieved silver as her compatriot won bronze.

They are rivalling pole vault athletes Katie Nageotte and Holly Bradshaw.

American Nageotte, who went on to win the women's competition, consoled Bradshaw after the Briton's pole snapped during the warm-up session and she was unable to content for a spot in the final.

When Bradshaw received abuse on social media for withdrawing, Nageotte again showed support on Twitter by defending her.

The third nomination goes to heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who comforted German Sophie Weißenberg after she recorded three fouls in the long jump.

The Briton, who experienced a similar incident at the 2015 World Championships, was also heard supporting Poland's Adrianna Sułek, emphasising she is a future superstar.

The finalists were revealed after fans voted for six days on social media to decide which moment best displayed fair play during Oregon 2022.

"Fair play is an intrinsic value of sport and I am extremely proud that, once again, our athletes are being recognised for a Fair Play Award," World Athletics President Sebastian Coe said.

"Their actions, on and off the field, demonstrate both the integrity of our athletes and their profound commitment towards one of the core values of our sport: competing in the spirit of fair play.

"Each of these athletes is setting the example for the next generation and represents the very best of our sport.

“I would like to personally commend them for the incredible sportsmanship they displayed at the World Championships."
