Saba Samadashvili and Davit Kareli ensured a golden double for Georgia on the second day of competition at the World Judo Cadets Championships in Sarajevo.

After France won both of the men's divisions contested yesterday, Georgia proved to be the top dogs today with Kareli and Samadashvili winning the respective men's under-60 kilogram and under-66kg titles in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Kelvin Ray was one win away from claiming a third gold medal for France but was undone by Kareli in the final, with the Georgian producing an ippon to clinch victory with half of the contest remaining.

Azerbaijan’s Nizami Imranov and Kazakhstan’s Talgat Orynbassar claimed the bronze medals after defeating France’s Dayyan Boulemtafes and Uzbekistan’s Sardor Khimmatov respectively.

Samadashvili won Georgia’s second gold of the day when he defeated Uzbekistan's Shohjakhon Otaboev by ippon in the men’s under-66kg final.

Italy's Federico Bosis saw off Azerbaijan's Nijat Naghiyev and Greece's Dimitrios Giannopoulos overcame France's Alexis Renard in the two bronze-medal bouts.

Kano Miyaki of Japan beat Sweden's Tara Babulfath to win the women’s under-48kg crown.

Bronze medals went to Aydan Valiyeva of Azerbaijan and Nandin-Erdene Myagmarsuren of Mongolia after downing Hungary's Luca Veg and Italy's Ilaria Finestrone respectively.

Finally, Italian Gaia Massimetti triumphed in the women's under-52kg class, beating Uzbekistan's Sugdiyona Rafkatova in the final.

Yi-Hsi Shen of Chinese Taipei emerged victorious from her bronze-medal match against Poland's Karolina Siennicka, while Ukraine's Anna Tieliegina completed the podium after edging Italy's Michela Terranova.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow.
