Egypt's Hania El Hammamy completed a stunning comeback against compatriot Nouran Gohar to claim the first El Gouna International title of her career in front of home support while Egyptian Mostafa Asal beat reigning champion Paul Coll of New Zealand in the men's event.

World number one Gohar was the pre-match favourite and looked to have the match wrapped up before El Hammamy came out of nowhere to steal the tie 3-2.

Gohar got off to the perfect start, dominating proceedings as El Hammamy struggled to gain momentum resulting in a 11-2 win for the top seed.

Gohar then kept her rhythm going to pick up an 11-4 win in the second, putting one hand on the trophy.

El Hammamy finally looked to be settling into the match at 4-4 in the third game and spurred herself on to an 11-8 victory.

The raucous crowd then got behind her as she powered towards 11-9 and 11-4 triumphs in the remaining games to take the win after 90 minutes.

"It's very special, I can’t believe it, said El Hammamy.

"A week ago I lost in the World Championships, I didn’t really feel like I was ready to come here and play my best squash and also being able to beat the world number one and two in the same tournament is a huge step for me, I've never done it and its mentally huge for me.

"I felt like coming here I have to show up, do my job and try as much as I can to play my best even if I'm not feeling like it.

"I wasn’t happy with what happened last week in the World Championships and I was disappointed and this week I felt like the hard work paid off so I'm definitely over the moon with this."

Following on from the women's final, Asal won the second platinum title of his career with a straight-game triumph against Coll.

The first game lasted a mammoth 30 minutes but Asal managed to eventually pull away in the latter stages by capitalising on some short drives by Coll to take it 11-8.

It looked like the first game had taken its toll on the New Zealander as Asal raced into a 5-1 lead in the second and fended off a comeback to win 11-9 before surging to an 11-5 victory in the decider.

"I want to thank all of this crowd for coming today, it is something unreal so thank you guys for coming and supporting us and making squash bigger and bigger," said Asal.

"I want to thank Amr Mansi and all the PSA for making this tournament.

"I couldn’t be more proud of myself."
