The Saint Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) has approved a financial package that will be distributed between three sporting associations.

The SLOC will be splitting EC$81,579.90 (£22,775.99/€27,405.81/$30,186.27) between the St Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA), the St Lucia National Table Tennis Association (SLNTTA) and the Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union (SLRFU).

The SLBA gained EC$34,179.90 (£9,541.80/€11,482.34/$12,647.28) in support of three boxers who are expected to compete at the American Boxing Confederation’s (AMBC) continental championships between March 22 and April 2 in Guayaquil in Ecuador.

The sporting association will also be using the $5,000 it kept aside while preparing for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The SLNTTA received EC$11,400 (£3,182.72/€3,829.70/$4,218.24) that will go towards their participation in the Caribbean under-15 and under-19 table tennis championships from May 6 to 11 in the Dominican Republic.

The final $36,000 (£10,050.71/€12,093.78/$13,320.75) was given to the SLRFU to help them find a technical director for the next 12 months.

SLOC President Alfred Emmanuel said that the Olympic organisation has granted EC$177,839.90 (£49,670.87/€59,743.23/$65,804.48) for six members so far in 2022.

Emmanuel made clear that the Sant Lucia Government or the private sector do not assist the SLOC financially and asked for members to increase their ability to secure funding from other avenues.

"We also want our members to recognise the fact that, with the limited resources that are made available to them, they will have to show slate," Emmanuel said.

"The SLOC is demanding performance on the field of play.

"It cannot be another outing again.

"We’re not accepting the notion that we are financing teams to leave these shores to gain experience.

"You gain experience at home; you show that you’re prepared for the regional and international competitions, and the SLOC will help you along.

"Trips for experience is no more under the SLOC."
