The super-G world champion came in with high expectations and good form after her second run in the women's giant slalom propelled her to the bronze medal, recording the fastest time of the day.

Her speed through the second intermediate gate was crucial, with all other skiers losing significant time to her.

From there, she did not lose the lead, finishing in a winning time of 1min 13.51sec.

Mirjam Puchner of Austria was another unlikely Alpine skiing medal winner at the Games, finishing as the Swiss skier's closest challenger, 0.22 seconds behind.

Puchner only made the World Cup podium in super-G for the first time in December at Lake Louise, claiming bronze, meaning this is her best result in a super-G race in her senior career.

Her silver medal is also her first medal at a major championship.

Michelle Gisin's third-place finish - 0.30 seconds off Gut-Behrami - meant the Swiss flag was represented on the podium twice after a fast finish.

Tamara Tippler of Austria was fourth, just three-hundredths of a second away from the podium.

Ester Ledecká, the defending Olympic champion, finished fifth.

The Czech dual-sport athlete was aiming to win the women's snowboard parallel giant slalom and super-G gold medals at two successive Games after doing the double at Pyeongchang 2018.

She successfully defended her snowboard parallel giant slalom title earlier this week.

Ragnhild Mowinckel of Norway, Italian Federica Brignone and Cornelia Hütter of Austria were in the top eight, followed by American Mikaela Shiffrin and Elena Curtoni of Italy.

Shiffrin was a medal contender in the giant slalom and slalom, but failed to finish in both races, but managed a top-10 placing by crossing the line this time.
