Gatwick_airportNovember 25 - Gatwick has launched a bid to make it the airport of choice for Olympic athletes, their officials and support personnel during the London 2012 Games.

The UK's second largest airport has appointed TSE Consulting to assist it to focus on attracting and catering for visitors and making their transition through the airport as smooth as possible.

Upon arrival, National Olympic Committees (NOC) and teams will be met and greeted at the air bridge by an expert team that will facilitate efficient processing through immigration, support with baggage and transfers to final destination.

Gatwick has a dedicated and experienced PR team to deal with media at the airport.

Upon departure, the airport is currently discussing the possibility of having remote check-in.

Again, passengers will have the support of an expert team to facilitate a smooth transition, including preferential processing through check-in and fast track through security.

Jasper Perry, director of TSE Consulting United Kingdom, said: "This project combines our expertise in helping NOCs prepare for the Games and helping regional partners such as Gatwick Airport to optimise their own involvement when such a major event is being hosted.

"London 2012 is a huge and unique opportunity for Gatwick Airport and we are looking forward to assisting them."

Gatwick handles around 34 million passengers per year and 70 airlines that fly to more than 220 destinations in 90 countries.

It has hosted and facilitated leaders from the G20 Summit and leading sports teams, including Chelsea FC, New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins and the GB team on its return from the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
