Thousands of young people with a passion for gaming have been enjoying the Global Esports Festival, which has been taking place in Singapore, where the Global Esports Games is due to begin tomorrow.

The Global Esports Festival, which has been taking place for the past three weeks, has offered young gamers the opportunity to take part in community tournaments, while also enjoying musical and entertainment performances.

Community tournaments have so far included the Pokémon Unite SG Qualifiers, and the tournament segment is set to conclude on Sunday (December 19) with student teams taking part in the Pokémon Unite SG Finals.

Following a showcase of video game series Minecraft earlier this week, student teams are set to take part in a Minecraft Campus Challenge on December 19, with the top three teams receiving a share of the $10,000 (£5,500/$7,300/€6,500).

Entertainment so far this week has included a preview of the Global Esports Federation anthem "Let The World Unite" by Singaporean singer-songwriter Jill-Marie Thomas.

The entertainment side of the festival is due to conclude at Zouk nightclub in Singapore tomorrow, with fans expected to be able to enjoy a performance from Singaporean based beatboxer Dharni.

Director of the GE Festival Victoria Cheng said: "The heart of the GEFestival lies in reaching out to gamers, and the chosen approach for my team and I was to be as real and authentic as possible.

"In the future, the GEFestival hopes to showcase more technological innovations which are not yet mainstream.

"All in all, the GEFestival hopes to continue pushing boundaries not just for the hype, but for individuals who are here for the long-run and not just the buzz."

Competition at the Global Esports Games is due to get underway tomorrow, with the eFootball 2022 Grand Final and the women's DOTA 2 Grand Final set to take place after the Opening Ceremony.
