John Kotsifas has been re-elected as President of World Taekwondo Oceania (WTO) and eight other members have been voted onto the organisation's Council.

Kotsifas first became President in 2015, was re-elected in 2017, and can now look towards another four years at the helm after running unopposed.

Election result was announced in an online ceremony due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

The Australian is joined by compatriots Daniel Trenton, Stuart Lee and Colby Au, who were nominated as the organisation's senior vice-president, secretary general and treasurer, respectively.

Lee and Au also faced no competition for the job whereas Trenton beat New Zealander Jin Keun Oh in a two-horse race.

Alfred Lai Koun Sing of French Polynesia and New Caledonian Henri Jouanno were elected as WTO vice presidents.

Fiji's Mehzameen Khan and Bronwyn Kanainiu of the Solomon Islands were named as female members of the Council with Samoan Kaino Thomsen taking a men's Council role.

The WTO received 11 applications for the three positions, including five from women.

The organisation approved a new constitution in July in addition to a number of electoral rule changes.

It stipulated that candidates for election must be 70 or younger, or 80 for incumbents.

Measures to ensure better gender balance and a requirement that at least two-thirds of the Council be elected have also come into force.
