Prescillia Bavoil of France and Russel Orhii of the Virgin Islands both registered two world records on their way to winning titles at the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Open Classic Championships in Swedish city Halmstad.

Bavoil posted record lifts in squat with 205 kilograms and deadlift with 230.5kg as well as a solid bench press effort of 112.5kg in the women’s 63kg class.

Her combined score of 548kg saw off competition from Iris Scholten of The Netherlands and Ivana Horna of Slovakia.

Scholten was Bavoil’s closest challenger, finishing on 495kg as Horna came third with 492.5kg.

Orhii clinched the men’s 83kg crown after registering world records in deadlift and squat.

He lifted 320.5kg in squat, 187.5kg in bench press and 333kg in deadlift to finish with 841kg.

France’s Yanis Bouchou came second with 778kg, while the bronze medal went to Italy’s Emilio Cotti Cometti with 772.5kg.

Alexander Eriksson of Sweden was crowned men’s 74kg champion after a squat of 245kg, bench press of 180kg and deadlift of 302.5kg to finish on 727.5kg.

France’s Paul Rembauville finished second with 717.5kg, while Kazakhstan’s Yakov Ionin completed the podium after scoring 715kg.

Yesterday, Tiffany Chapon of France came out on top in the women’s 47kg division after scoring 397.5kg with a squat of 150kg, bench press of 82.5kg and deadlift of 165kg.

Canada’s Simone Lai was second with 372.5, edging out Kazakhstan’s Veronika Broner - who finished on the same combined score - based on body weight.

There was a French top two in the women’s 52kg class with Noemie Allabert doing enough to beat compatriot Shizuka Rico.

Allabert produced a squat of 157.5kg, a bench press of 80kg and a deadlift of 192.5kg to finishing on a winning score of 430kg.

Rico had to settle for second with 417.5kg as Andrea Riley of the Virgin Islands came third with 412.5kg.

The men’s 59kg title was won by Sergei Fedosienko of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) after a squat of 230kg, bench press of 150kg and deadlift of 260kg to total 640kg.

Evgenii Mukhomedianov of ROC scored 562.5kg to finish second.

There was also medal success for ROC in the men’s 66kg category as Sergei Gladkikh sealed second spot with 687.5kg.

But the top honour went to France’s Panagiotis Tarinidis who notched 692.5kg after a squat of 247.5kg, bench press of 167.5kg and deadlift of 277.5kg.

Eddie Berglund of Sweden finished third with 660kg.

Britain’s Joy Nnamani clinched the women’s 57kg crown after totalling 480.5kg with a 162.5kg squat, 97.5kg bench press and 220.5kg deadlift.

Canada’s Maria Htee came second with 472.5kg as Britain’s Bobbie Butters finished third with 470.5kg.

The IPF's flagship event continues until Sunday (October 3).
