Russia won a top-of-the-group tie against hosts Hungary during the second round of group games at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Under-19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Debrecen.

Both won their opening games in Group B, but it was the 2017 champions who emerged victorious 70-56.

With the score still fairly tight after three quarters, Russia dominated the fourth to secure the victory.

Reka Dombai was Hungary's main threat, scoring 16 points, partly due to a trio of three-pointers - but it was Olairi Kosu who was the top scorer with 20 points for the winning team.

Argentina claimed an important 65-56 victory over Chinese Taipei to win their first game in Group A, with Georgina Buzzetti being the lead scorer with 16 points.

Spain and France added their second wins by thrashing Brazil and South Korea respectively, setting up a head-to-head for top of the group.

Louise Bussiere scored four three-pointers to score 20 points for France against South Korea, aiding them to a 92-35 win.

Begona De Santiago Otero scored 15 points for Spain, who won 83-22 against the Brazilians.

After forfeiting their game against the Czech Republic yesterday, Mali defeated Japan 67-57, meaning all four teams are still in contention in Group D.

Sika Kone scored an impressive 24 points for Mali, but Shayeann Day-Wilson was the standout player in the group today, scoring 31 points for Canada in a 79-71 victory over the Czech Republic.

Italy recovered from a thrashing at the hands of the United States yesterday to win 81-73 in overtime against Egypt.

Australia faced the US in a rematch of the 2019 final in the other Group A game, but there was no dramatic overtime win for the Americans this time.

Instead, it was a one-sided affair - with the US winning 99-59.

Caitlin Clark produced the standout performance for the US, scoring 24 points, including five three-pointers.
