Chateauroux in France is set to return to the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup circuit next year and the event could be qualifier for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

World Shooting Para Sport World Cup has confirmed that competition will take place at the Centre National de Tir Sportif (CNTS) from June 6 to 13 in 2022.

It will be the second time Chateauroux has staged a World Cup, with the first held three years ago when 228 athletes from 43 countries participated.

All shooting Para sport classes including rifle and pistol mixed team events are expected to feature at the tournament.

Tyler Anderson, senior manager for World Shooting Para Sport, said the World Cup could also form part of the Paris 2024 qualification process.

"We are thrilled to be back to the CNTS where we had a fantastic event three years ago," said Anderson.

"This is one of the best and most accessible shooting ranges in the world and we are thrilled to partner with FFTir (French Shooting Federation) again to deliver what is sure to be a fantastic event.

"We aim to include the Chateauroux World Cup as one of the qualification events for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on top of being a qualification event for the Al Ain 2022 World Championships.

"We expect to have a final decision once we confirm the Paris 2024 qualification regulations with the International Paralympic Committee."

FFTir President Michel Baczyk added: "We are very excited to welcome WSPS back for another World Cup. Our CNTS shooting range was built with accessibility in mind and we are happy to host the top shooting Para sport athletes in the world.

"We had a successful event in 2018 and we look forward to welcoming the world back to Chateauroux in 2022 with a brand new final hall, which will permit the broadcast of all finals."

The Chateauroux World Cup is the fourth event confirmed for next year’s World Shooting Para Sport calendar following the announcements of the European 10-metre Championships in Norwegian town Hamar in March and the World Championships in Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates in November.

Shooting will also be part of Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, scheduled to run from October 9 to 15 October.
