The United States and Turkey maintained their unbeaten records as the third week of the women’s Volleyball Nations League got underway at Rimini in Italy.

The US top the standings with 21 points after a straight sets victory against Germany 25-23, 25-13, 25-13 in the final match of the day.

Turkey are in second with 19 points after also recording their seventh win of the competition earlier in the day when they came from behind to beat Thailand 23-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-9.

Brazil are in third place with 18 points after registering their sixth win when they beat Serbia in straight sets 25-12, 25-14, 25-13.

The Netherlands sit in fourth with 16 points after earning their fifth win when they beat Japan in straight sets 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.

Japan sit in fifth in the standings on 14 points with five wins following today’s loss to the Dutch.

In the opening match of the day Belgium beat China in a contest that went the distance, triumphing 17-25, 27-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-8.

Russia also won a five-setter as they beat the Dominican Republic 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-8.

The third contest to go all the way saw Poland come from two sets down to defeat Canada 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 15-7.

The day’s other match saw hosts Italy defeat South Korea in four sets 27-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20.

Another full round of matches are scheduled for tomorrow with the US and Turkey looking to continue their winning runs against South Korea and the Dominican Republic respectively.
