Parasport Sweden has announced that camps and sports days which were planned for the early part of next year will now be rearranged.

It is hoped that the events - the Start Your Impossible Camps and the Special Olympics School Days - will take place later in 2021 instead.

The decision has been made due to coronavirus restrictions, with gatherings and events with more than eight people prohibited in Sweden as of November 24.

"It is of the utmost importance to follow the advice from the Government, the Public Health Agency and the regions," said Start Your Impossible Camp organiser Stefan Jansson.

"The ban, the stricter general guidelines and restrictions mean, among other things, that you must not gather more than eight people, do not train indoors or spend time with others than those in your own household.

"This means that we do not believe that it is possible to carry out Start Your Impossible Camp in a safe way with regard to the spread of infection.

"It is also not relevant to conduct either the camps or the sports days on a smaller scale with, for example, fewer participants or without associations on site.

"With the restrictions that prevail, we do not want to encourage sports with people who you do not associate with on a daily basis and therefore choose to postpone the events.

"The planning work will continue instead for the rest of 2021.

"The hope is that the camps and sports days will be arranged later next year.

"Of course, we hope that society will soon open up and we are fully planning for new camps when it does.

"Then we also hope for lots of new participants for our sports."

Kristin Frilund, a business developer at Special Olympics Sweden who is behind School Days, added: "We hope that the situation will improve during the year and that we can start running School Days again."
