Lennart Krayer of Germany and Austria's Mona Mitterwallner secured the men's and women's junior cross-country titles, respectively, at the International Cycling Union Mountain Bike World Championships in Leogang-Saalfelden.

Krayer took the men's crown at the Austrian venue after completing the course in 1 hour 16min 39sec.

The German rider finished 40 seconds ahead of nearest challenger Janis Baumann of Switzerland, who was forced to settle for the silver medal.

France's Luca Martin earned bronze, 1min 24sec adrift of the victorious German.

Mitterwallner triumphed on home soil with an even more commanding victory in the junior women's race.

The Austrian clocked 1:15:55, more than a minute faster than silver medallist Luisa Daubermann of Germany.

Aneta Novotna of the Czech Republic did enough for the bronze medal.

The Championships continue tomorrow with events including the men's under-23 cross-country race and qualification in the men's and women's elite downhill categories.

France's Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and Myriam Nicole are defending their titles in the women's cross-country and downhill respectively, with compatriot Loïc Bruni bidding to retain his men's downhill title.

Switzerland's reigning cross-country world champion Nino Schurter is also expected to compete in the elite events.
