Yohansson Nascimento_wins_Parapapan_November_16_2011November 18 - Three world records were broken on the track during day five of the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara as Brazil's dominance of the event showed no sign of abating.

Yohansson Nascimento (pictured) of Brazil raced home in the men's 200 metres T46 in 22.24sec to smash the first record, whilst Cuba's Omara Durand was soon breaking another record in the 100m T13, racing to victory in 11.99 seconds.

Kristen Messer of the United States then broke a 12-year-old T33 record in the women's 100m as she won gold, before controversy erupted in the men's 800m T54.

Venezuela's Juan Valladares had initially clinched victory but it was later found that he had broken too early and so Mexico's Saul Mendoza Hernandez was awarded the victory.

In the men's 800m T37 a Games record was broken by Argentina's Mariano Dominguez in 2min 10:88sec, and then an Americas record went in the men's 200m T36 when Colombia's Jose Florez with a time of 26.89 took gold.

Brazil were back on the medal trail in the men's 200m T38 through Edson Pinheiro, who took gold, and Argentina also won another race when Hernan Bareto swept home comfortably in the men's 200m T35, breaking another Americas record in the process.

Chelsea McClammer_wins_Parapans_November_2011Chelsea McClammer (pictured) secured another American gold medal after running the women's 200m T53 in a Games record time of 34.55.

Ariosvaldo Fernandes Silva added to the string of broken records when she set a best Games time of 26.74 in the men's 200m T53.

Jenifer Santos claimed another Brazilian gold in the women's 100m T38, and Mexico then won the women's 100m T54 – her 17.46 time was another Games record.

Brazil won another two gold medals on the track, with Odair Santos winning the men's 1500m T11 and Terezinha Guilhermina claiming the 400m T12 with another Games record of 58.42.

Mexico's Salvador Hernandez Mondragon won the men's 400m T52 in the last track race of the day – setting yet another record for the Games of 1:02.60.

On the field, Mexico claimed all three medals in the men's shot put F57/58, Alejandro Perez Torres winning gold.

In the high jump F46 Argentina's Luis Enrique Schonfield claimed victory, but Brazil were soon dominant again, winning four golds.

First Francisco Lima threw 50.90m in the men's javelin F44, whilst Roseana Santos won the women's discus F57/58.

Andre Oliveira then won the men's long jump F44 with a Games record of 6.16 metres, and Marivana Oliveira clinched the Discus F35/36/37.

Mexico won the shot put F12 as Tania Lorena Jiminez won gold, whilst USA's Matthew Brown clinched victory in the discus F42.

Esther Rivera won the women's javelin F52/53/33/34 to give the home crowd more reason to cheer, but Mexico remain third in the medal standings.

Brazil's 54 golds, 36 silver and 42 bronze medals puts them well out in front, whilst the USA remain in second with 34 gold, 30 silver and 22 bronze.

Mexico have a good chance of edging the USA out in the battle for second as they are on 33 gold, 41 silver and 30 bronze going into the final three days of competition.
