The event is scheduled to be staged by the Union-Yacht-Club Attersee on Lake Attersee in the landlocked nation, with dates of September 28 to October 4.

It is due to be the first time teams will compete at a major Championship since the World Championship in Geelong in February, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will also have been 18 months since the last Class Championship was held in Europe.

All teams are invited to participate, but travel restrictions will be considered by organisers who said they would ensure the competition goes ahead safely.

Mass gatherings will be limited where possible, with organisers looking to have an electronic notice board as well as a Zoom meeting for skippers rather than in-person gatherings.

Zoom will be used for protest hearings and organised meals and snacks after racing will be stopped.

Sailors will also be expected to practice social distancing during the competition, as well as with friends outside their usual bubble.

The schedule should see the practice races run on September 28, before three qualifying series days, ending on October 1.

From October 2 to 4, the Final Series is set to take place.

Bids for major championships in 2023 and 2024 in the 49er and Nacra 17 classes were due to have a deadline of September 15, but this has now been pushed back to December 15 due to the pandemic.

These competitions are the World Championship, European Championship, Junior World Championship and Short Track World Championship.
