Established in partnership with Loka Heroes, which provides funding and other resources to people who make a difference in society through basketball, the "Ballers on Wheels" scheme is designed to spread the sport and raise interest in wheelchair basketball.

It is aimed at introducing wheelchair basketball to more locations in Sweden and attracting a greater number of participants.

Swedish wheelchair basketball professionals Hillevi Hansson and Louise Forell are looking for Loka Heroes around Sweden who want to start teams.

Those interested have been asked to apply through the Loka Heroes scheme.

The eventual aim is to garner enough interest to create Sweden's first professional wheelchair basketball league.

The "Ballers on Wheels" initiative formally begins in August, but the search to find new players has already begun.

"Our sport is amazing and accessible to many people - it is fast paced, tough, and challenging," said Hansson. 

"The joy and community that surrounds the sport is something that I hope more people will take the chance to experience.

"Anyone with the will, ambition, and interest will be given the chance, so now we’re searching for these people nationwide as well as locally. 

"The hope is that so many people will want to join that we can start a league, that would be our dream."
