World number one Rory McIlroy is among four PGA Tour players set to compete in a charity COVID-19 relief tournament later this month.

Four-time major winner McIlroy will partner American Dustin Johnson to take on Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff in a team skins game at Seminole Golf Club in Florida on May 17.

The PGA Tour is not due to resume until at least June 11 in response to the coronavirus crisis, and it is hoped the relief match will help fill the void of live action caused by the pandemic.

The behind-closed-doors competition will be aired live on NBC, Golf Channel, NBCSN and Sky Sports, while it will also be streamed live on four other platforms.

Organisers will impose COVID-19 measures including guidelines on social distancing and testing at the match.

"It’s been difficult to witness what so many are enduring over the last several weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” McIlory said in a statement.

"I hope that we can provide some respite and entertainment for those tuning in across the globe.

"Dustin and I will have a lot of fun together and our games will fit well as we push to raise funds and awareness on May 17."

The date and location has also been set for Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson's charity golf match, where they will each partner with American football players.

Woods, a 15-time major winner, will join Peyton Manning, while Mickelson will team up with Tom Brady.

The match for the coronavirus pandemic relief fund has been scheduled for Woods’ Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound in Florida on May 24 - exactly seven days after the contest involving McIlroy and Johnson.
