Denmark opened their home European qualification event for this year's Men’s World Floorball Championships by beating Iceland today.

Mathias Glass scored three of the goals as the hosts triumphed 12-4 at Arena Nord in Frederikshavn.

The Danes were joined in making a winning start to Group B by Estonia, who defeated Great Britain 17-1.

In Group A, Poland edged Slovenia 6-5 before Sweden thrashed Ukraine 27-1.

Another European qualification event beginning today was that in Slovakian city Poprad, where Groups C and D are taking place.

In Group C, Russia overcame Belgium 11-2 before Switzerland hammered sole Africa representatives Ivory Coast 51-0 at Arena Poprad.

The International Floorball Federation (IFF) announced today that it had taken the decision to void Ivory Coast's results.

Due to the fact that not all the team's players were granted a Schengen Visa to travel and participate in the tournament, the size of the squad is only six field players and one goalkeeper.

"The goalkeeper was not a player who was originally included on their first team list and, according to the IFF competition rules, should not be eligible to play," an IFF statement reads.

"The jury decision is therefore to let the team Cote d’Ivoire play the games normally, in order to educate and develop the team, but the results will not be part of the official qualification tournament in Group C.

"The IFF jury has agreed this with team Cote d’Ivoire and the other teams in the qualification Group C: Belgium, Russia and Switzerland.

"All four teams have approved the decision of the IFF jury and the IFF competition office."

Meanwhile in Group D, Norway thumped Italy 18-1 and hosts Slovakia beat Hungary 14-3.

Action also continued today in Groups E and F at Olympic Centre in Latvian city Liepāja.

In Group E, Czech Republic made it two wins out of two by defeating Spain 18-1

It came after The Netherlands had bounced back from their loss against Spain yesterday to overcome Liechtenstein 8-4.

Germany and hosts Latvia maintained their perfect starts to Group F, with the former overcoming France 9-4 and the latter claiming a 10-1 victory over Austria.

Round-robin matches are due to continue tomorrow at all three qualification events.
