The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Olympic Patrol project finished for the year at a school in Moscow.

The event at Kurchatov School in the Russian capital was attended by Yuliya Gavrilova, part of the gold-medal winning women's sabre team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

She talked to the students about the history of the Olympic Movement and its main principles, her sport and the path to victory, before answering questions.

"This is a very important project for children, because they always look at elders and take examples from them," said Gavrilova.

"I really enjoyed talking with the guys.

"I was surprised that at that age they asked such serious questions.

"I will be pleased to participate in similar events in the future."

They also had the chance to try out sports on the Olympic programme such as athletics, basketball, curling, fencing, golf and shooting,

The Olympic Patrol project is part of ROC's Olympic country mass development programme and has been running for five years.

In December, the Patrol visited Yekaterinburg, Norilsk, Saint Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Kaliningrad and Moscow.

The total number of its participants totals just under 200,000 youngsters.
