Birmingham 2022 has launched its new logo with three years to go until the start of the Commonwealth Games ©Birmingham 2022

Birmingham 2022 today marked its brand and vision for the Commonwealth Games to coincide with it starting in exactly three years' time. 

To help celebrate the key milestone, a free community of culture and sport – called "the Commonwealth Social" – has been held in the city. 

The event includes a series of live performances from regional dance and musical groups and the chance to try Commonwealth cuisine, thanks to local street food traders.

Youngsters will also be given the opportunity to take part in demonstrations, receiving advice and encouragement from 15 Team England athletes, including five Commonwealth Games gold medallists – boxer Galal Yafai, netballer Ama Agbeze, Para athlete Katrina Hart and gymnasts Dominick Cunningham and Alice Kinsella. 

Officials claim that it fits in with their new slogan of "Games for Everyone" that will enable Birmingham and the West Midlands to take advantage of the most significant opportunity it has ever had to showcase the region to a global audience.

The brand connects key West Midlands destinations – many of which will host events during the Games – bringing their locations together to create a unique B-shaped design, organisers claimed.

It has been designed by RBL, a local creative agency based in Royal Leamington Spa.

A series of mysterious tape art installations had appeared across the region without explanation, but today it was finally revealed that Birmingham 2022 had been behind this artwork after a giant installation at New Street Station was unveiled this morning.

"Preparations are well under way for the delivery of a spectacular multi-sport event for the people of Birmingham, the West Midlands, England and the Commonwealth," Dame Louise Martin, the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, said. 

"Launching the new brand on this special day will also ensure the identity of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games lasts forever."
