Dublin City University, which gained full status in 1989, was named as the inaugural recipient of the award following an impressive showing in the 2018-2019 academic year.

The rugby teams led the way for the university as the women's sides won the Women’s Rugby Division 1 and 2 Leagues and the inaugural Women’s Rugby Tier 1 Cup.

The men's and women's squads won their respective events at the Rugby 7s Cup.

Senior sports development officer Yvonne McGowan and Robert Mullen, rugby development officer at Dublin City University, accepted the award from Lynch.
