The Austrian Paralympic Committee (OPC) has launched "Talent Days 2019" as it seeks to use star athletes to attract the next generation.

The project, which encourages children from eight to 18 with a physical or visual impairment to play sport, will run over two days this summer on June 14 and July 2.

Participating federations will give children the chance to try out archery, athletics, badminton, cycling, rowing, sailing, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis.

They will also provide further information on clubs and training sessions.

Austrian Paralympic champions Thomas Geierspichler, Gunther Matzinger and Natalija Eder will be in attendance to showcase their sports and sign autographs.

Geierspichler and Matzinger are both wheelchair racers, while Eder competes mainly in F12 classification throwing events.

The trio will be joined by Germany’s Heinrich Popow, the men's long jump F42 gold medallist at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Worldwide Paralympic Partner Ottobock will deliver a workshop with a dedicated team of technicians who will equip the children with sport prosthesis and wheelchairs free of charge.

"It has always been important for us to promote talent," OPC President Maria Rauch-Kallat said.

"There are certainly many young people with disabilities who have yet to discover their athletic talent.

"The Talent Days will be their opportunity to test various sports and discover their enthusiasm for sport."

Parents and teachers are also invited to participate in the workshops, engage in an interactive exchange with the children and try out Para-sports.

The registration deadline is May 3.
