Hungary's reigning world champion Zsuzsanna Krajnyak earned fencing gold by the narrowest of margins on the second day of the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) World Games in Sharjah.

Krajnyak progressed to the final of the women's foil category A event at the Al Thiqa Club in the United Arab Emirates city.

She found herself locked at 14-all against China's Paralympic champion Jing Rong, but earned the crucial point required to clinch the gold medal.

China's Haiyang Gu and Krajnyak's team-mate Eva Andrea Hajmasi claimed bronze.

Italy's world and Paralympic champion Beatrice Vio lived up to her status as the favourite in the women's foil category B competition.

Vio earned a dominant 15-5 win over China's Jingjing Zhou to clinch the gold medal.

Bronze medals were awarded to Russia's Irina Mishurova and China's Rong Xiao, the beaten semi-finalists.

China's Daoliang Hu celebrated his second gold medal in two days, as he added to his foil title by winning the men's épée category B event.

He beat Britain's world champion Dimitri Coutya for the successive day in the final, winning by just a single point.

Iraq's Ammar Ali and China's Jie Zhang took bronze.

Britain's Piers Gilliver won the men's épée category A final by overcoming China's Paralympic champion Gang Sun 15-10.

Iraq's Zainulabdeen Al-Madhkhoori and Russia's Maxim Shaburov secured bronze.

Wheelchair fencing competition includes the first World Cup leg of the season and also incorporates the Under-23 and Under-17 World Championships.

Shooting competition also continued today at the Al Dhaid Shooting Club, with the host nation's Abdullah Sultan Alaryani winning the men's R7 men's 50 metres rifle three positions SH1 event.

He was joined on the podium by compatriots Obaid Al Dahmani and Abdullah Saif Alaryani, who won silver and bronze respectively.

Latvia's Genadjis Sicevs won the P2 men's 10m air pistol SH1 competition, ahead of the UAE's Yaqoob Al Zarooni and Saeed Alteneiji.

Archery, athletics, badminton, swimming, shooting, table tennis and wheelchair fencing will all be contested in the United Arab Emirates.

The flagship IWAS event is viewed as an important stop on the road to next year's Paralympic Games in Tokyo, with qualification points available.
