Russia dominated the speed events in Switzerland ©UIAA

Russia swept both the men’s and women’s speed podiums as the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) World Cup continued in Saas-Fee.

The Russian team have dominated the opening two of the events of the season in Asia and there was no changed at the first European event in Switzerland.

Anton Nemov led their charge in the men’s competition at the Ice Dome, posting the fastest time of the event.

His third and final climb was timed at 7.60sec, seeing the Russian rise to the stop of the standings.

Vladislav Iurlov, the current leader of the World Cup speed standings, was narrowly second in 7.61.

Combined world champion Nikolai Kuzovlev rounded off the top three in 7.86.

Iran’s Rad Mohsen Beheshti missed out of the podium in 7.98.

Russia’s Valeriia Bogdan triumphed in the women’s speed competition after producing a blistering final run of the competition.

Having posted a time of 10.30 in her first run, Bogdan clocked 9.79 in her second to move to the top of the standings.

Bogdan saved her best run until last, clocking 9.38 with her third effort to ensure victory.

World Cup leader Ekaterina Koshcheeva finished as the runner-up after achieving a best time of 10.27.

She has won one and finished second twice in the opening three events of the World Cup season.

Natalia Savitskaia completed an all-Russian podium by managing a time of 11.09.

Her compatriot Maria Tolokonina was fourth, but will aim to secure a third consecutive lead title when competition is due to continue tomorrow.
