September 28 - Paralympics New Zealand has today confirmed that Duane Kale (pictured) will remain Chef de Mission of its team to compete at the 2012 London Games.
He also held the role for last year's Beijing Paralympics when New Zealand finished 24th overall with 12 medals, including five gold.
He was formerly one of New Zealand's top swimmers.
At the Atlanta Paralympics in 1996 he set four world records on his way to six individual medals, including four gold - the most by a New Zealander at any one Games.
In Sydney at the 2000 Paralympics Duane served as manager of New Zealand's swimming team and was given the top job last year.
Kale said: "I'm excited about the opportunity to take the success and experience from past games to make London a greater success and better experience for New Zealand athletes."
Canadian show jumper Ian Millar holds the record for the most Olympic appearances by an athlete in any sport. When he competed at London 2012 at the age of 65 it was the tenth time he had competed in the Games since making his debut 30 years earlier at Munich 1972. He had won his only Olympic medal at Beijing 2008 when he was part of Canada’s team that took silver in the team jumping event. Millar won a gold medal in the Pan American Games team jumping event at Toronto 2015. He announced his retirement in 2019.
