Sweden's Tove Alexandersson will hope to carry her form from the recent World Championships into the Orienteering World Cup event in Østfold in Norway as she bids to extend her advantage at the top of the leaderboard.

Alexandersson won two gold medals at the event in Latvia, which doubled up as the second World Cup competition of the season

She has a total of 460 points, nearly 100 in front of nearest challenger Natalia Gemperle.

The Russian athlete currently occupies second on 363 points and is comfortably ahead of third-placed competitor Maja Alm of Denmark.

The race for the men's title is a much closer affair as Switzerland's Daniel Hubmann has just a two-point lead over team-mate Matthias Kyburz with a total of 412 points.

Olav Lundanes of Norway is a further 110 points adrift of Kyburz in third place.

The event in Østfold, which includes a long distance race, pursuit and relay competitions, begins tomorrow and concludes on Sunday (September 2).

It will be broadcast on NRK 1 in Norway and YLE TV2 in Finland.

Online coverage will be provided on the International Orienteering Federation's website, with the governing body asking for a nominal fee to be able to access the feed.

"We are most satisfied that NRK has purchased the broadcasting rights," said World Cup director Per Bergerud.

"They have great competency in helping build and create athlete profiles, and it will be exciting and interesting to work with them.

"They can promote the event and the sport very well."
