Tilbert La Haye is due to continue in his position as chief executive of the International Korfball Federation (IKF).

The Dutchman, 41, joined the world governing body two years ago with the aim of overseeing the sport's drive towards Olympic inclusion.

A statement did not elaborate on precisely how long his contract had been extended for.

It claimed that, under his La Taye's leadership, the "professionalism in day-to-day operations has increased substantially".

New initiatives, such as the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup series, were also hailed as well as other "programmes to develop the administration and playing strength of the many young national organisations that have joined the IKF in the past decade".

"We are very happy to have reached an agreement with Mr La Haye," said IKF President Jan Fransoo.

"With his expertise, knowledge, and energy, he has brought new initiatives, and new structure to the operations and development of the IKF.

"We look forward to seeing our sport, our federation, and our national organisations develop further under his executive leadership."

Interestingly, there is no mention of the Olympic-objective in the announcement that La Haye is remaining in his position.

Korfball is among the IOC-recognised sports who are entitled to apply to be added for to the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games in Paris and Los Angeles respectively.

"I am very proud of the confidence the IKF shows by extending my contract for the years to come," said La Haye.

"We have been making major steps forward with our intensified international competition calendar - particularly in youth -  and the development of the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup series, with events upcoming in Belgium, Hong Kong and China.

"This is a good foundation for extending our marketing and sponsorship proposition, which we are currently aligning with our unique gender-equality requirement in every single korfball match played wherever."
