The country is an emerging force in world judo after Majlinda Kelmendi won gold on the nation's Olympic debut at Rio 2016.

It was two other Kosovan stars - Distria Krasniqi and Nora Gjakova - who topped podiums today while Kelmendi's sister Fjolla bagged a silver at the Antalya Arena Spor Salonu.

Krasniqi, considered as Majlinda Kelmendi's "understudy" as she competes in the same under-52 kilograms division, won her fourth Grand Prix gold medal.

She defeated Britain's Chelsie Giles in the final after two waza-ari without reply.

Bronze medals were shared by Reka Pupp of Hungary and Slovenia's Anja Stangar.

Gjakova won her gold in the women's under-57kg final by beating Jandi Kim of South Korea.

She countered an ouchi-gari for ippon with 43 seconds remaining.

Sabrina Filzmoser of Austria won bronze alongside Maayan Greenberg of Israel.

The other women's event went the way of Portugal's Catarina Costa who won her first title at this level by seeing off Fjolla Kelmendi in the under-48kg final.

Costa scored ippon with eight seconds left on the clock as Brazil's London 2012 Olympic champion Sarah Menezes shared bronze with home Turkish judoka Gulkader Senturk.

Two men's titles were also decided on day one in Antalya.

Albert Oguzov of Russia won at under-60kg, defeating Georgia's world junior champion Jaba Papinashvili with just a minute of the final gone.

Adonis Diaz of the United States won bronze alongside Amarbold Jagvaraldorj of Mongolia.

Georgian teenager Bagrati Niniashvii then won the under-66kg as he won his final against Moldova's Denis Vieru in just 33 seconds.

Bronzes went to Kilian Le Blouch of France and Kherlen Ganbold of Mongolia.

The three-day competition continues tomorrow with the men in action at under-73kg and under-81kg and the women doing battle at under-63kg and under-70kg.

The event is the last on the judo calendar before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification phase opens.
