Germany's Isabell Werth claimed her fourth Western European League win of the season in the last qualifying event for the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Dressage World Cup, due to take place in Paris next month.

Riding Emilio 107 at the Brabanthallen in ’s-Hertogenbosch in The Netherlands, six-time Olympic gold medallist Werth put in an excellent performance, being awarded 87.405 points by the five judges.

Following her win today, Werth was very complimentary of her Westphalian horse.

"Emilio certainly showed an improvement today," she said.

"He was amazing.

"He felt like 90 per cent!"

Werth finished a considerable distance ahead of London 2012 bronze medallist Edward Gal of The Netherlands, who was awarded 83.900 points for his efforts on Glock's Zonik N.O.P.

Gal expressed his delight at his Dutch Warmblood horse.

"He’s improving so fast," he said.

"This was only his third World Cup.

"There are a few little things that need improving, but he keeps surprising me."

Gal's compatriot Madeleine Witte-vrees, riding Cennin, claimed the last medal on offer thanks to a points total of 82.555.

The World Cup Final in the French capital Paris is scheduled to take place from April 11 to 15 with nine riders from six European nations having qualified.

They will take on some of the best riders from across the world in a month’s time.
