Elvira Oeberg won her second gold medal of the International Biathlon Union Youth/Junior World Championships as Sweden clinched the women's youth relay title in Otepää.

The 19-year-old won the youth women's 10 kilometres individual title on day one of competition in Estonia on Monday (February 26).

Her victory followed older sister Hanna Oeberg's Olympic gold in the 15km individual at Pyeongchang 2018 this month, with the family now experiencing yet more success.

Elvira teamed up with Amanda Lindstroem and Ella Halvarsson to clock a winning time of 1 hour 3min 19.8sec following a photo finish.

Their victory came with the use of just six spare rounds.

Oeberg pushed her team to the front from behind, first shooting clean at the final prone stage to move within 43.9 seconds of Norway and Finland.

She then went clear again at the final standing shoot as Finland's Heidi Nikkinen and Norway's Juni Arnekleiv were forced onto the penalty loop.

It left all three countries leaving withing five seconds of each other, with Arnekleiv soon cut adrift on the ski for home.

It was Oeberg who had the most speed as she pipped Nikkinen on the line.

Finland won silver on the same time with Norway in bronze medal position, 37 seconds adrift.

"When I crossed the finish line, I was not sure that we won," said Oeberg.

In the men's event, gold went to Russia.

The team of Denis Tashtimerov, Andrei Viukhin and individual champion Mikhail Pervushin came out on top in a time of 1:04:51, using eight spares.

Czech Republic were second, 2:30.0 back, while Norway were third, 3:04.5 behind.

"Our goal before the race was to win, and we managed it, I'm happy with my performance," said Tashtimerov.

The event will continue tomorrow with the men's and women's junior individual races.
