Winners of the two sections in the men's, women's and mixed pairs categories have been decided at the World Youth Bowls Championships at Broadbeach in Gold Coast.

Ellen Ryan of host country Australia kept up her good form in section one of the women's event by beating Guernsey's Sophie Rabey 21-6, before coming out on top against Pricilla Westlake of Canada 21-19, ensuring she finished top of the standings on 21 points.

After losing her place at the top of the table to Australia's Kristina Krstic yesterday, Tayla Bruce of New Zealand put in an excellent display today to make sure she finished at the summit of section two.

Bruce defeated Malaysia's Nur Ain Tarmizi 21-9 before beating Ireland's Megan Wilson 21-13 to finish with a points total of 21.

Home athlete Aaron Teys continued his dominance in the men's number one section with a convincing 21-5 win against Rob Law of Canada.

Teys' win today means he finishes three points clear of Ross Owen of Wales at the top of the table.

Malaysia's Daeng Dahasry took advantage of Australian Corey Wedlock's two losses yesterday to finish top of the men's section two standings with a total of 21 points, after beating Namibia's Cabous Olivier 21-4 and Turkey's Sercan Yanik 21-3.

There was, however, joy for Wedlock in section one of the mixed pairs event as he and partner Krstic finished top of the pile with a points total of 22, despite not having to play today.

Singles section one winners Ryan and Teys finished top of the mixed pairs section two table despite also not having to play a match today.

The Australian duo finished with a points tally of 18.

The section winners in each of the categories will now compete in the knock-out stages of the tournament, which start tomorrow.

The venue will host competition at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
